Yeah, anthologies are often entirely made of reprinted stories, but many out there contain either all original stories, or a combination of originals and reprints.

And you're right, rejecting stories is hard, especially when the person has written it specifically for me. Sometimes a person who didn't get into a certain anthology can sell that story elsewhere, though, especially if the theme isn't too crazily specific.NayadMonroehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14371487102170568713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662198317776145657.post-36280701941165146812013-04-04T13:08:04.502-05:002013-04-04T13:08:04.502-05:00This is so interesting! I had always thought of anthologies as taking stories that had been published in magazines and putting them into a book; I'd never really thought of requesting custom work on a specific theme. It sounds like great fun -- although I would be terrible at rejecting people. I fully understand why it has to happen, but I'd still feel so bad telling someone that I couldn't use the story I'd asked them to write.Cherylhttp://tembrooke.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662198317776145657.post-11767428107572618032013-04-04T11:03:21.789-05:002013-04-04T11:03:21.789-05:00Oh, definitely be a slush reader if you get the ch...Oh, definitely be a slush reader if you get the chance to volunteer! I did it for three years, and it helped both my writing and my critical reading tremendously.NayadMonroehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14371487102170568713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662198317776145657.post-34397331338889386302013-04-04T10:57:13.821-05:002013-04-04T10:57:13.821-05:00As a writer it is fascinating for me to see things...As a writer it is fascinating for me to see things from the editor's point of view. I have considered volunteering to be a slush pile reader to enhance my experience and overall knowledge of the process. I'm sure this can be difficult work. But like you I love to read, and many of the stories I have come across astound me with their scope, creativity, and interpretation of given themes or prompts.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10500126024101544489noreply@blogger.com
